A Johnson County food truck checklist for event contracts, vehicle and equipment risks, food handling, and interruption.
Map the event setup
A food truck at a Bargersville fair or Johnson County event may use a vehicle, cooking equipment, a generator, tents, and temporary staff. List the truck, each piece of equipment, where food is prepared and stored, who drives, and how long the event lasts. Keep the organizer’s site map and contract. Give Jennifer Dammeier Agency those facts before assuming a standard business policy covers the full operation.
Read the organizer’s insurance terms
Event agreements may ask for proof of liability insurance, certain limits, or additional insured wording. Ask your agent to review the exact contract and issued policy before providing a certificate. A certificate describes insurance; it does not itself change coverage. Confirm who is responsible for damage to the venue, customers, or another vendor, and whether the event or property owner has separate requirements.
Review vehicle, food, and equipment exposures
Ask how commercial auto, general liability, products liability, business property, equipment breakdown, and spoilage may apply to your operation. Check limits, deductibles, exclusions, and whether equipment is covered while moving or parked. Keep permits, temperature logs, maintenance records, and photos of the setup. Our spoilage records guide offers a separate checklist for temperature-sensitive stock.
Prepare for a canceled or interrupted event
Document expected sales, vendor fees, food purchases, and any backup location. Ask whether an event cancellation or loss of power is an insured event under the actual policy; a disappointing sales day alone is not proof of coverage. Browse the Small Business Insurance archive for more local operating guides. Keep a contact and incident plan for staff so safety and reporting come first.
